Microsoft will be rolling out an under-the-hood upgrade for their collaborative platform Teams. The tech company says that the upgrade will offer users a higher level of performance than before.
This update was released in a new entry of the Microsoft 365 product roadmap, announcing to users that Teams will now be supported by the company’s own content delivery network known as Microsoft eCDN.
Although the roadmap is a bit technical, the upgrade reduces bandwidth consumption and optimizes video streaming for Teams users without the need for altering the device level. Read on to learn more!
Teams Performance
There is little that separates top-of-the-line video conferencing and collaboration software in regards to features, so application performance became one area that vendors could use to set themselves apart.
The new Teams update will become available to all users in the next few days and it’s being viewed as one part of the overall objective. There hasn’t been any explanation about what kind of performance improvements the upgrade could deliver, but critics and reviewers are looking forward to a proper explanation in the next few days.
In the last few months, Microsoft has released a bunch of other upgrades for Teams. The company recently took steps to optimize its collaborative services for devices that use Apple’s in-house silicon, fix PDF issues, and improve support across different web browsers.
These kinds of improvements are also being seen in other places, too. Google released an upgrade for Meet not too long ago, and this upgrade allowed the service to better distinguish between the background and foreground. This created a cleaner look for features like light adjustment and background blur. Zoom is also rolling out advanced security features to a wider range of its services too.
Most collaborative application data suggests that Zoom will remain the dominant force inside the market, but with Microsoft’s under-the-hood upgrade and stream of new features, they are set to secure a larger portion of the market.
Stay on the lookout for this upgrade and future upgrades throughout the rest of the year with the Microsoft 365 roadmap.
