Meta, formerly known as Facebook, recently announced that they invested $150M into 10 universities. Some of these universities include historically black colleges and non-profits.
This investment aims to help universities get their virtual campuses up and running. The money will help fund the construction of virtual spaces, and Meta Quest headsets will be donated for the university students to use.

Use Cases for Meta and Other Tech Companies
The investment plan for Meta has been incredibly collaborative on the construction side and student side of things.
Meta is working with an external design agency to help with the layout of the virtual spaces. This move will help the virtual spaces fit into existing university buildings and aid in student accessibility.
Additionally, the donated Meta Quest headsets will help students connect and collaborate on group projects and other forms of learning they are required to complete for their degrees.
So, how does this investment aid in Meta’s use case for the Metaverse?
Meta and other large tech companies have faced use case issues with their virtual reality because of the wide range of things the Metaverse and other virtual realities can do. It’s amazing that this tech can do so much, but having specific use cases can help technology like this get into bigger industries.
This is precisely why Meta’s investment into education is a net-positive for the Metaverse. By investing in education, Meta is giving their virtual reality a far more specific use case for on of the biggest industries in the world.
Right now, education is only one of the many other use cases that Meta can use to promote the Metaverse. In the months and years to come, expect to see more investments like this going towards other large industries.
